When you
decide to build yourself a site, you encounter the following problems:
- There
are very many laws on the Internet and some of them are specific only
to certain countries and it's difficult for one persona to learn about
all of them.
- It's
not very clear how you should behave in order to observe all this laws
in case you're the "master".
- Who is responsible for the material displayed by visitors, the current
issue of chats, discussion lists or other interactive sites.
There
is the possibility of building a legal site even when the so recent laws
of the Internet are changing. Here are a few rules that make this task easier
for you:
- Make
a very clear separation between the services available by building different
pages for each of them. The authorities won't make confusions of their
legal registration.
- If
your service is based on a well known model, organize it as close as
the model as possible (be it newspaper, shop or other thing). An image
that is already known will determine a more correct registration.
- Share
responsibility by employing many firms to build the site. The responsible
for a small part will know of the latest changes in the field and will
be able to arrange easier the adjustments.
- When
you transmit data (shares' rate) don't modify them. It's always very
recommended to mention the source as well as other data (e.g. date and
hour of the collection) to rule out possible misunderstanding of the
clients.
- Before
entering the site, display a contract that would insure a strict reduction
of possible complaints of the visitors. (E.g.: they should take responsibility
for material displayed or for the age they declare)
- Get
as many data as possible on the visitors so as to be able to make them
responsible for breaking the displayed contract.
- Make
reasonable politics. Try to smooth down conflicts between users without
putting in practice tough principles. At the same time, rules should
be permissive so as not to impend with the free expression right.
- Take
care of the advertising mode of the site. If you are going to right
a family site it is not expected to find inside violent language or
pornography.
- Don't
make connections to dubious sites.
- Use
warnings (You're doing this at your own risk, etc.).
